I grew up understanding that a business is not a job — it's an obligation you take on for the people who depend on it, and the people who'll inherit it. My first venture was a restaurant. It taught me the only lesson that matters before you're allowed to build anything bigger: if you can't run one business with discipline, you have no business owning ten.
Most companies are built to be sold. Ours isn't. The Sultan Group exists because I wanted a structure that could hold a business for the long haul — through good years and bad ones — the same way a family holds its name. That's why we're a holding company and not a portfolio of exits waiting to happen. Every business we take on, we intend to keep.
